Salary Range: $18.00 to $25.00 per hour. Salary is based on education, experience and certifications.

The Opportunity

The Sports Institute at Douglas College is accepting ongoing applications for our Fall (September 13 to December 7), Winter (January 10 to March 8), Spring (March 16 – March 27) and Summer (June 22 to August 31) programs. The Youth Program Leader provides leadership, program delivery and supports the overall operational functions of the Sport Institute youth programs, activities and events. Reporting to the Manager, Athletics and Recreation Operations, this position receives daily direction and supervision from the Program Coordinator, Sports Institute.

The Youth Program Leader provides leadership, program delivery and supports the overall operational functions of the Sport Institute youth programs, activities and events. Reporting to the Manager, Athletics and Recreation Operations, this position receives daily direction and supervision from the Program Coordinator, Sports Institute.

Collaborates with the Youth Program Coordinator to:
  • Support the organizing, coordinating and delivery of programs, activities and events;
  • Lead program activities;
  • Conduct operational and administrative responsibilities as directed;
  • Develop and implement camp lesson plans;
  • Support program, activity, and event set up/take down;
  • Adhere and uphold to College policies, procedures and department processes;
  • Ensure a safe and respectful environment for participants and staff;
  • Report incidents and accidents through established policies, procedures and processes in consultation with the Manager, Athletics and Recreation Operations and Director, Athletics and Recreation.

To be successful in this role you will need:
  • Post-secondary education, or combination of work/education experience;
  • Experience with youth programming is an asset;
  • CPR and First Aid training ( AED training is an asset);
  • Related industry training, certification, i.e. High Five, Coaching Canada Association, Early Childhood Development, Child and Youth Care, etc. is preferred;
  • Satisfactory completion of a Criminal Record check including a vulnerable sector check. A criminal record will not automatically result in your application for employment being denied.

The Youth Program Leader provides leadership, program delivery and supports the overall operational functions of the Sport Institute youth programs, activities and events. Reporting to the Manager, Athletics and Recreation Operations, this position receives daily direction and supervision from the Program Coordinator, Sports Institute.

Recruitment and selection for these positions will be ongoing throughout the 25/26 year. Applicants need only to apply once to be considered for their preference of programs.

Camps will be held at both New Westminster and Coquitlam campuses, as well as several satellite locations such as Town Centre and Queens Park. Full-time, part-time and on-call positions will be available for all camp offerings and include half and full days. Work hours depend on availability but typically occur between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
