Overview

The Vice-President (VP) of Indigenous Partnerships will lead Build Canada Homes’ (BCH) integrated, Indigenous-centred approach to supporting housing development and financing across First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities.

Responsibilities

The VP will guide the organisation’s work in generating new opportunities, providing navigation support to communities, and enabling access to financing tools and development partnerships that advance Indigenous-led housing solutions.

They will oversee strategies that strengthen capacity, streamline project pathways, and ensure Indigenous priorities are embedded in all aspects of Build Canada Homes’ programs, investments, and advisory activities.

The VP will provide strategic counsel to senior leadership, anticipate emerging needs in the Indigenous housing and infrastructure landscape, and steward initiatives that enhance trust, create shared value, and deliver sustainable outcomes for Indigenous communities across urban, rural, northern, on-reserve, and off-reserve contexts.

The VP will lead engagement and partnership development with Indigenous governments, community leaders, housing authorities, financial partners, and sector organisations.

They will cultivate constructive relationships that guide multi-sector collaboration, and shape innovative financing and development models tailored to diverse Indigenous housing contexts.

The VP will also play a central role in governance processes, ensuring strong, accountable, and culturally grounded engagement with Indigenous leaders in BCH’s oversight structures.

They will monitor key policy, financial, and regulatory developments; prepare strategic briefings and partnership frameworks; and champion initiatives that expand Indigenous housing capacity and advance self-determined community development.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Profound understanding of the Indigenous political and socio-economic landscape across urban, rural, and northern regions, including on- and off-reserve contexts.
  • Proven record of leading multi‑sector collaborations involving governments, financial institutions, and Indigenous community partners.
  • Significant experience in real‑estate finance and development within an Indigenous context.
  • Strong judgement, cultural fluency, communication skills, and ability to engage with empathy, cultural safety, and respect for Indigenous protocols.
  • Experience navigating complex portfolios and leading multidisciplinary teams, aligning partners around shared objectives, and moving projects from concept to implementation.
  • Strategic mindset with commitment to reconciliation; ability to advise senior leadership and champion Indigenous-led housing solutions.
  • Bilingual (English/ French) - imperative.
Essential Requirements
  • Graduation from a recognised post‑secondary institution.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of extensive experience in partnership with Indigenous governments, communities, or organisations across varied settings.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience structuring and managing complex real‑estate development, financing, or housing partnership agreements within an Indigenous context.
  • Experience in leading Indigenous-led housing, infrastructure, or mixed‑use projects within Indigenous communities.
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategies related to capacity‑building of Indigenous housing or infrastructure development.
  • Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and human resources.
  • Secret security clearance.
Asset Qualifications
  • Specialisation in Indigenous Studies, Public Policy, Law, Economics, Business Administration, or Political Science.
  • Experience developing policy related to Indigenous economic development, housing, or infrastructure.
  • Experience working within the public sector (municipal, provincial/territorial, or federal) or within an Indigenous government.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in an Indigenous language.
