Position Summary: The Treater Lead is responsible for overseeing day-to-day chemical wood treating operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant production. This leadership role supports a team of treaters and operators by coordinating production schedules, verifying chemical usage and equipment operation, and maintaining compliance with safety and environmental standards. The Treater Lead serves as the first point of contact for troubleshooting, process adjustments, and communication between shifts and management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute daily treating schedules based on production demands
  • Monitor and adjust chemical concentrations to meet treatment specifications
  • Oversee retort treating cycles, charge loading, and post-treatment quality checks
  • Review and verify production data, including charge logs and treating reports
  • Coordinate chemical make-up and inventory usage with plant leadership
  • Ensure compliance with varying regulators for process and equipment
Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce safe work practices and ensure crew compliance with PPE requirements
  • Conduct and document equipment safety checks, inspections, and risk assessments
  • Respond to and report any safety incidents, near-misses, or environmental events
  • Support compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., WHMIS, PEL, ERP readiness)
  • Maintain TRD Audit Requirements
Maintenance Coordination
  • Identify and report equipment issues; initiate maintenance work requests
  • Support maintenance crews during planned repairs or downtime events
  • Assist with mechanical troubleshooting (pumps, valves, heat exchangers)
Crew Leadership
  • Assign daily tasks to treaters, loaders, and supporting crew
  • Train and mentor new operators on treating procedures and equipment
  • Maintain shift communication and provide feedback to the team
  • Ensure accurate shift handovers and update supervisors on ongoing issues
Reporting & Communication
  • Complete production reports, chemical usage records, and downtime logs
  • Communicate critical updates to plant leadership via email and shift reports
  • Participate in shift meetings, safety toolbox talks, and operational reviews
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5-10 years experience in industrial or wood treating operations
  • Minimum 4th class power engineering certificate
  • Previous supervisory or lead-hand experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of pressure treating processes and chemical handling
  • Comfortable with mechanical systems and basic troubleshooting
  • Proficient with plant control systems (PLC/HMI) and basic computer tasks (Excel, Email)
