Site Assessment and Remediation (SAR)

We have one of the most experienced environmental and geosciences engineering consulting teams in Canada and we are seeking a Team Lead to join our Nelson, BC team. Our expert team in Nelson specializes in managing contaminated sites through comprehensive site investigation, risk assessment, and customized remediation and risk management plans. We support many sectors across AtkinsRéalis from transportation, infrastructure, water, power & renewables, and many more. In the Kootenay region, there is a strong focus on mine site investigation, remediation and closure planning.

Location – Kootenay Region and ideally based out of the Nelson, BC office; however, Cranbrook, Fernie and Trail in BC would be considered

Responsibilities
  • Supervising and mentoring a team of environmental professionals and technical staff.
  • Providing leadership with a focus on collaboration and instill a culture of diversity, inclusion and equality.
  • Maximizing group utilization, while also ensuring a healthy work-life balance by coordinating resources across the team.
  • Understanding client objectives, technical protocols, guidelines and regulations that apply to the work/projects conducted and the rationale/developmental framework behind them.
  • Acting as a direct interface between clients and the AtkinsRéalis project team, stakeholders including First Nations and/or regulatory bodies, as appropriate.
  • Senior level project management, including technical program development, management of personnel and resources, oversight of budgets and schedules for deliverables, implementing quality assurance reviews, and ensuring client objectives are met.
  • Growing the group revenue from existing client relationships, developing new business and/or expanding lines of business.
  • Identifying project quality/project profitability risks and liabilities and developing strategies to minimize them.
  • Ensuring proper implementation and continued use of quality assurance programs and corporate policies and procedures, including Ethics and Compliance.
  • Embracing behavior-based safety and ensuring all health and safety protocols are followed.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Geology, Biology, Chemistry or Environmental Sciences and having a professional designation in BC would be considered an asset.
  • More than 12 years of practical environmental consulting experience and at least 5 years managing environmental staff
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and mentor technical and professional staff at different levels of career development.
  • A technical expertise in the mining sector would be considered an asset. Specifically related to abandoned mine sites, remediation, and mine closure.
  • Solid knowledge of municipal, provincial and federal environmental standards, regulations and guidelines as they apply to environmental investigation and remediation projects in British Columbia (and other parts of Canada).
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to manage time and multiple deliverables accordingly.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proven technical writing skills and proficiency in English reading, writing and speaking.
  • Commitment to excellence with a focus on quality management.
Compensation

Compensation Range: Expected compensation for this role is between $110,600 - $152,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, location, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
