Summary

Reporting to the Electrical & Instrumentation Supervisor, the Surface Electrician will be responsible for delivering electrical support to surface operations, ensuring the efficient and safe operation of electrical systems and equipment.

About Us

The Keno Hill mine, located within the Keno Hill Silver District in Canada’s Yukon Territory, is one of the highest‑grade silver districts in the world. It is situated 350 km north of Whitehorse, lies within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun, and covers 242 km² with numerous mineral deposits and over 35 historical past‑producing mine sites. Keno Hill is expected to produce 2.7‑3.1 million ounces of silver in 2025 as the mine ramps up production. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Since 1891, Hecla has been a respected precious metals producer and has received numerous safety and environmental awards.

Here’s What You Can Expect In This Role

Support surface mine electrical needs in compliance with Federal and Yukon Electrical Codes and related regulatory and safety requirements. Willingness to support underground mine electrical needs as required. Ensure Federal and Yukon Electrical Codes and related regulations remain in compliance. Installation, troubleshooting and repair of low, medium and high‑voltage circuits. Installation, troubleshooting and repair of A/C motors and variable‑speed drives. Programming, installation and maintenance of PLCs and HMI systems. Electrical maintenance on all milling and mining equipment. Provide direction, support and guidance to apprentices as required. Work cooperatively as a member of the Maintenance Team. Other duties may be assigned. Promote a strong environmental culture and teach environmentally friendly values. Foster a strong safety culture and exemplify safe work practices. Be part of a reliable team that has your back.

Qualifications
  • 5 years related experience as a Journeyman Electrician.
  • Interprovincial Journeyman ticket.
  • Experience working in a remote mining or industrial environment an asset.
  • Ability to develop and foster strong working relationships.
  • Valid class 5 driver's license.

Work Environment

Employees will be regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, including snow and ice, as well as extreme temperatures ranging from cold to heat. The work environment may involve contact with potentially hazardous wildlife, moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the use of explosives. There is also a risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration. Noise levels can occasionally be loud, depending on the task or location on site.

Work Location & Schedule

This is a fly‑in fly‑out position based at a remote mining camp, operating on a rotational schedule of 14 days on and 14 days off. Camp accommodations and meals are provided while on site. All travel to and from the mine site is arranged through a designated travel agency and coordinated from approved flight hubs. We are primarily seeking candidates who reside in the Yukon, British Columbia, and Alberta, particularly near major transportation centers within these regions.
