Role Overview

Gibraltar Mine is seeking a Superintendent, Tailings Management to provide operational and technical leadership for the site Tailings Storage Facility (TSF). This role is accountable for the safe, compliant, and efficient operation, monitoring, and ongoing development of the TSF, in alignment with regulatory approvals, and site-specific design criteria.

The Superintendent will lead, instrumentation, inspections, and reporting, while working closely with the Engineer of Record (EoR), Mill Operations, and regulatory agencies. This is a senior leadership role requiring strong technical judgement, disciplined execution, and a visible commitment to safety and risk management.

Core Responsibilities
  • Act as a courageous safety leader, promoting a strong safety culture across tailings operations and field activities.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership for tailings deposition, water management, and dam safety activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all permit conditions, HSRCBC requirements, CDA guidelines, and regulatory commitments related to the TSF.
  • Oversee dam safety inspections, instrumentation monitoring, surveillance programs, and performance reporting.
  • Coordinate and support the Engineer of Record, Independent Tailings Review Board (ITRB), and regulatory inspections.
  • Manage tailings operational plans, OMS manuals, and emergency preparedness requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and operational targets to Mill Operations to ensure deposition aligns with design and capacity objectives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop tailings staff, technicians, and contractors.
  • Support capital planning, construction activities, and continuous improvement initiatives related to tailings infrastructure.
Education & Experience
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Civil, Geotechnical, Mining, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in tailings or geotechnical roles within mining.
  • Demonstrated experience with large TSFs, including operations, surveillance, and regulatory engagement.
  • Strong understanding of CDA Tailings Guide, BC regulatory framework, and dam safety principles.
  • Proven leadership capability in managing multidisciplinary teams and contractors.
