Summer Junior Graphic Designer

Location: 11738 Kingsway Avenue NW Edmonton, Alberta

Closing Date: April 3, 2026, or Until Suitable Candidate Found

Position Status: Two (2) Full Time (40 hrs per week), Temporary (May-August)

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for two (2) full-time, temporary Summer Junior Graphic Designers. This is a summer term position with an end date of August 28, 2026. Reporting to the Creative Services Supervisor, the Summer Junior Graphic Designers will be responsible for providing support to the Communications and Citizen Engagement Department through the creation of design collateral for both print and digital media. The successful candidate will have strong technical skills with digital media, excellent communication skills, and will be required to both take direction and work intuitively to support the completion of the department’s goals and objectives in a professionally and culturally appropriate manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and edit digital graphics and promotional materials using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other design software/platforms.
  • Organize digital and branded files and assets.
  • Help conceptualize new design materials.
  • Support client and project communication.
  • Assist with administration of Otipemisiwak Métis Government Provincial events & programs.
  • Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.
Skills & Competencies

We are looking for a motivated, confident individual who is passionate about Indigenous issues, graphic design, and communication practices. Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with colleagues is required. Other skills/competencies include:

  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of digital media.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro).
  • Experience in Microsoft Suite applications and Google Workspace.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including professional email etiquette.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with an ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to switch between multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with and convey messages to different audiences.
  • Political and cultural sensitivity.
  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture, people, and values is an asset.
Qualifications
  • Obtained or pursuing a post-secondary education in Graphic Design or a related field is preferred. Other relevant training and experience will be considered.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a design role. Volunteer or school experience is considered valid.
  • A website link or portfolio sample with application is required.
Other Requirements
  • Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, with notice.
  • Ability to travel throughout Alberta is a requirement.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
