Job Description – Sport Program Workshop Facilitator

Bullying is a societal problem that is impacting individuals in all areas : School, work, sport and home life. In sport there is a fine line between competitive spirit and true bullying. Whether it’s from parents, guardians, athletes or coaches, disrespectful behaviour has become a growing concern at gyms, swimming pools, courts, rinks, ski hills, fields and all other sport locations.

Through our sport program, Tackle Bullying in Sport, we have facilitators travel across Canada to deliver comprehensive and interactive workshops to all members (athletes, coaches, management / leadership teams, parents, guardians, and officials) of sport organizations. Our goal is to increase awareness, educate, and give the tools and confidence to all participants in order to create more positive, safe and inclusive sport experiences.

Training :

Training / probation period will be supervised and guided by the Sport Program Director.

Familiarizing yourself with all of the Dare to Care workshop scripts; including coach / management workshop, parent workshop, and age-appropriate athlete workshops.

Observing a Senior Dare to Care facilitator for approximately 10 workshops (the total number will be at the discretion of the Executive Director and / or the Sport Program Director). These workshops will be a combination of in-person and virtual delivery.

Probation / Training period will be deemed over after a successful solo workshop delivery evaluated by the Sport Program Director (or other Senior Facilitator).

Program Delivery : (95%)

Delivering workshops independently once the training process is complete.

Working directly with the Sport Program Director to book / deliver workshops throughout the year.

Responsible for making their own travel and accommodation arrangements.

Submitting invoices to the Sport Program Director in a timely manner.

Completion of post workshop survey after each and every workshop delivered.

Stay current and relevant in the Safe Sport Movement.

Attend monthly facilitator meetings (virtual).

Attend bi-annual staff / facilitator retreats (winter & summer).

Working closely with the Sport Program Director, outreach initiatives may be explored (ie. contacting new organizations, networking, etc)

Potential attendance at various events / conferences on behalf of Dare to Care (payment for those events will be discussed)

Working with the Marketing Lead to support our social media initiatives (ie. taking pictures, sharing posts, etc.)

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

A degree or diploma in sport related industry will be prioritized

NCCP certification is preferred

Experience in the sport sector (provincial, national or university athlete / coach / official experience considered a strong asset)

Experience public speaking

Experience in conflict management / mental health / community building / bullying prevention will be prioritized

Ability to present in English and French is preferred

Must be available weekends and weeknights

Must be available to travel out of town – with notice

Access to own transportation for local and out of town workshops

Ready to provide a criminal record check upon request

Basic understanding of Google Suites, Zoom and Microsoft PowerPoint

Working Conditions

Location :

Dare to Care is a Calgary-based organization but we work with sport groups across Canada. While some workshops will be held virtually, all athlete workshops are in-person. The successful candidate must be able to travel on occasion. All travel expenses will be refunded by Dare to Care.

Compensation :

Facilitators will receive $ per 2 hour workshop and be compensated for all travel expenses.

During the training period, the facilitator will be paid $ / workshop for up to 10 workshops while they observe and shadow a senior facilitator – all travel expenses covered. Any additional meetings, outside of training, will be compensated at $25 / h
