We are looking for an Intermediate Signaling Design Specialist to join our team in Toronto.

The successful candidate will perform system design, signaling design, analysis, modeling and simulation to specify communication‑based train control systems. In addition, you will develop block design, interlocking control tables, and application databases for software subsystems.

Key Accountabilities
  • Technical:
    • Performs technical/engineering tasks to define application databases for software subsystems.
    • Conduct analysis and simulations as needed to identify design feasibility and driving requirements.
    • Prepares specialized signaling design skills, covering areas such as:
      • Signaling Principles
      • Data Requirements
      • Block Design
      • Interlocking Control Tables
      • Application Database Design
    • Deliver project guideway application data, signal plans, crossover coordinates, track maps, and guideway database to software groups.
    • Ensure signaling design is implemented per applicable standards and signaling principles.
    • Create new concepts or modify existing ones to meet customer‑specific requirements.
    • Present technical designs to engineering/management groups in clear, concise, and non‑ambiguous terms.
    • Evaluate and define operational design limits, and perform performance analyses and simulations related to these limits.
    • Support system design work, including developing system, subsystem, and interface requirements specifications and performing compliance assessments tied to customer requirements.
    • Build strong working relationships and interfaces with Software, Hardware, and IVVQ groups for timely analysis and resolution of in‑house and field test issues.
  • Safety:
    • Promote a safety culture where product safety is paramount.
    • Ensure safety is integrated into the design by proactively identifying and resolving safety‑related defects early.
  • Management:
    • Implement process improvements to enhance project delivery, cost‑efficiency, and quality.
Key Requirements
  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Systems, Electrical, Computer), Computer Science, or a closely related field.
    • 2‑5 years' experience in the development of software‑based system applications.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, methods, and tools.
    • Understanding of systems development life cycle.
    • Medium‑level expertise in URS (Urban Rail Signaling) Systems:
      • Minimum 3 years on systems of similar complexity.
      • Intermediate‑level expertise in specialized engineering skills within the CBTC (Communication‑Based Train Control) domain.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with tools such as DOORS, Polarion, Melody Advance, or other system design and requirement management tools.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience in database development for software applications.
  • Experience in developing/reviewing test scenarios and/or procedures to test database implementation.
  • Understanding of tools used to create/verify data for safety‑critical systems.
  • Rail signaling knowledge.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
