Job summary

Current Group.ca in Alberta seeks a Service Dispatcher / Order Taker to be the first contact for residential, commercial and agricultural service customers. You will take service requests, gather details for electricians, and schedule dispatch to keep jobs on time.

You are the link between customer, field and office, handling calls, coordinating routes, and ensuring timely updates. This full-time role emphasizes accuracy, safety and proactive communication.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1+ years of dispatch or customer service experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Comfortable multitasking and staying calm under pressure.
• Good computer skills (email, scheduling software, Microsoft Office or Google Workspace).
• Accurate data entry and attention to detail.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming calls, emails and web requests professionally and promptly
• Ask the right questions to understand the problem and urgency
• Record accurate customer details, site address, access instructions and job notes
• Identify safety hazards and elevate emergencies to the appropriate person
• Explain service call fees, scheduling windows and next steps clearly
• Offer maintenance agreements and follow-up services where appropriate
• Assign and schedule service calls based on technician skills and priority
• Route trucks to minimize drive time and keep the schedule efficient
• Adjust the day's schedule for emergencies or delays
• Monitor job status and keep customers updated
• Prepare work orders and coordinate parts and materials as needed
• Support permit, inspection and quote follow-ups as directed
• Ensure completed jobs are documented and passed to billing on time
• Follow up on callbacks, warranty calls and customer complaints as needed
• Keep dispatch boards and pricing information current
