Position Summary
We are looking for a hands-on Sr. Project Manager to lead the execution and success of strategic projects within our asset management firm. This position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with both business and technology teams while actively driving the delivery of high-impact projects that align with the firm’s strategic goals. You will be involved in every phase of the project lifecycle, from planning and governance through to execution, ensuring that the project meets the business objectives while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
As a Sr. Project Manager, you will :
- Drive execution of strategic projects – setup appropriate project governance, develop the global delivery plan, lead collaboration between departments, define business requirements, ensure periodic incremental delivery, testing, and successful implementation.
- Create a governance structure for managing complex projects that involve multiple business, technology and control partners.
- Represent the needs of stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, providing expertise and working knowledge of various business operations processes in the asset management industry.
- Own various project organizational activities such as risk and issue monitoring and mitigation, operation and information risk management, status reporting and delivery governance.
- Document requirements, process models, assumptions, and changes in project scope, maintaining an audit trail of project-related activities. Complete data analysis and data mapping tasks
- Perform hands-on testing including collaborating with the testing team and business stakeholders to ensure testing is comprehensive and successful.
- Work with the project team, internal customers, staff and consultants to establish critical quality control checkpoints, including acceptance criteria sign-off, project schedule and timeline commitments, critical path definition, training, and project status reporting.
- Develop, maintain, and distribute standard project management deliverables for their successful completion, including implementation plans, schedule, budget, issues & action item logs, meeting minutes, risks assessment and contingencies.
- Monitor project costs and resource allocations to ensure investment is used in the best interests of the firm.
- Set client expectations, maintain communication with key stakeholders while ensuring a great customer experience.
- Work with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions to problems faced by the business units.
Skills and Experiences
- 7+ years as a Project / product manager or equivalent consulting experience
- The candidate should be able to demonstrate a history of hands-on involvement in large projects involving business and technology deliverables.
- Prior experience across full project life cycle, understanding the change implications and execution model needed in the financial services environment.
- Demonstrated project delivery experience in functions of asset management like performance, LDI, risk and data analytics, valuations, client onboarding, reporting, billing, order management, compliance.
- Experience with analyzing large sets of data, completing data mappings and documenting data transformation rules based on best practices.
- Experience with documenting data integration requirements to deliver cost effective solutions reducing data redundancy and increasing data integrity.
- Experience writing technical requirements and / or user stories.
- Experience creating process models and improving business processes.
- Proficient in Excel for data analysis, reporting, and project tracking, with a strong understanding of Excel functions (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables, charts).
- Basic knowledge of SQL and the ability to query data, join tables, and extract relevant information to execute test cases and validate system functionality.
- Experience with various asset management systems such as Bloomberg, FactSet, Charles River, Morningstar, etc.
- Strong attention to detail and data quality.
- Hands-on testing experience, including the ability to write and execute test cases, ensuring business requirements are met and systems are functioning as expected.
- Savvy with quantitative analysis and a working knowledge of statistics.
- Ability to maintain project team focus and structure, including the development of a strategic project management plan encompassing schedule, budgetary, contractual, human resource and stakeholder elements.
- Ability to work with key business partners, to build and maintain a project roadmap that can be used to drive delivery priorities.
- Proficiency with at least one agile methodology – e.g. XP, Scrum etc.
- Have a user-centric mindset throughout the product development process.
- Open to new tools and methodologies yet opinionated about best practices
- Very strong communication skills and know how to influence without authority
- Applied knowledge of user testing and validation techniques to help guide product decisions through user testing and iterative feedback loops
Education and Accreditations
- A Bachelor’s or graduate degree in finance, accounting, economics, information systems, computer science or similar field
- Certifications such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Project Management Professional (PMP), or other project management or agile-related certifications are a plus
For all positions in Quebec (Montreal and Laval), proficiency in French, both spoken and written, is mandatory. Working English proficiency is also required in order to serve our offices and clients around the world.
