Description
  • In this position, you will be responsible for piping analysis work on new and existing generation nuclear projects, and will interface with systems engineering, structural engineering, piping design, and support design groups, for the design of piping systems and pipe supporting elements
  • Reconciliation of pipe stress reports for as-built conditions
  • Prepare analytical reports determining the reactions of piping on equipment and structures
  • Interpret and apply code requirements
  • Review proposed piping support systems, identify issues, and recommend appropriate, cost-effective solutions
  • Interface and exchange engineering details between external contacts including equipment suppliers, clients, and installation contractors
  • Manage workload to meet project commitments
  • Consult with client and others on field-related issues including follow-up reports or design modifications
  • Coordinate and provide guidance to other engineers, project managers, client personnel, and suppliers to ensure a complete and timely design
  • Develop your career via peer-learning through sharing of knowledge with other experienced engineers by way of S&L’s systems of process and associated “Communities of Practice"
  • Provide guidance as a mentor in the development of less experienced engineers

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural/Civil Engineering from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board-accredited undergraduate program or a US based ABET-accredited program, with an emphasis in solid mechanics, structural analysis, theory of elasticity, metallurgy, and finite element analysis
  • 5 or more years creating computer piping analysis models and interpreting results for code compliance
  • Must have knowledge of ASME B31.1 and ASME B&PV Section III piping codes (knowledge of B31.1 1967 Edition and B&PV Section III 1971 through Summer 1973 Addenda is preferred)
  • Knowledge of the design, selection, and application of pipe supporting elements
  • Working knowledge of commercially available piping products and their application
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • P.Eng license is desired
  • Active Ontario Power Generation (OPG) security clearance is a plus
  • MS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering, from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program
  • Experience with CAESAR II and/or AutoPIPE Pipe Stress Analysis software
  • Experience with ANSYS Workbench and Mechanical ADP
  • Knowledge of gas dynamics and hydraulic transients is desirable
  • Knowledge of pipe condition assessment is a plus
