Overview
We are looking for a qualified Senior Interior Designer for an immediate opening at our firm. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years of senior-level experience and will be responsible for leading, contributing, collaborating, and supporting project teams across all design aspects, including design, direction, management, and coordination. This role involves working on a diverse range of commercial projects in the academic and residential sectors.
The successful candidate will have strong design acumen, a passion for innovation, and a commitment to design excellence. Key responsibilities include leading multiple projects, overseeing all phases of project delivery, and effectively managing client expectations and industry relationships with minimal supervision.
Candidates should demonstrate knowledge in all aspects of interior design, and possess an innate desire for professional growth and development.

Key Responsibilities
- Proven experience as a team player, able to lead, manage and contribute to multiple projects.
- Oversee and support all phases of project delivery design including contributing to proposals, reviewing contracts, budgeting, client presentations, concept development, planning, design, documentation for permit and construction, specifications, finishes and materials selection, furniture specifications, QA / QC, CA support, and closeout.
- Responsible for delivery of project documentation for construction while providing review, comments, and mark-ups, ensuring documents are coordinated with consultant drawings and specification documents.
- Internal: Collaborate across interdisciplinary project teams and staff to ensure drawing documents are complete, detailed, and cross-referenced for construction / costing.
- External: Manage client expectations along with consultants and their respective documentation to ensure accurate representation of interior requirements.
- Intuitively mentor junior and intermediate team members, sharing knowledge and insights to further grow and develop the team.
General
- Support the Diamond Schmitt team at large, including Principles, Associates, Directors, and staff, including project and internally related initiatives on an ongoing basis.
- Support and contribute to business development opportunities in securing potential Interior projects.
- Support and contribute to Design Award submissions to promote DSAI within the design Industry.
- Engage and actively participate in Diamond Schmitt culture.
- Lead and contribute to the development and growth of the Interiors team by participating in Industry events, project assignments, and internal education opportunities.
- Manage, oversee and report on staffing needs on an ongoing basis.
- Contribute to growing the interiors team through participating in candidate interviews and recommending potential design candidates.
- Proven and effective communication and time management skills and ability to adapt to unforeseen project related changes.
- Well established industry connections with the ability to share knowledge of innovative product and materiality that is compliant with LEED and building code standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design and / or Architecture
- Minimum 5 years’ experience at a Senior Interior Designer level.
- ARIDO / IDC member in good standing
- Proficient with all Microsoft and Adobe suite presentation software (i.e. PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
- Understanding and proficiency in Revit / BIM software an asset.
- Knowledge of 3D modeling software (Enscape, Twin Motion) an asset.
- BCIN, LEED, WELL, Rick Hansen Certification an asset.
