Reporting to the Director, Commercial Banking and Wealth Management Compliance, the Senior Consultant will provide oversight and advisory support for CIBC’s Commercial Banking business, ensuring adherence to the compliance policies and regulatory requirements. The role is accountable for delivering independent compliance oversight, identifying and mitigating regulatory risks, and supporting the implementation and effective operation of the Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) framework within Commercial Banking. The Senior Consultant will proactively advise on compliance matters, facilitate the development and maintenance of robust compliance controls, and support the business in achieving regulatory expectations and protecting CIBC’s reputation.

Regulatory Compliance Oversight - Provide expert advisory support to Commercial Banking on the requirements and practical application of the compliance policies detailed in the Commercial Banking Compliance Manual. Ensure ongoing alignment between business activities and compliance requirements.
Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) Program - Support the enhancement, implementation, and maintenance of RCM activities specific to Commercial Banking. Identify, assess, and remediate compliance risks and deficiencies, and ensure timely reporting and remediation in accordance with CIBC standards.
Policy and Control Development - Advise on the development, review, and enhancement of compliance controls, policies, and procedures to address regulatory obligations and emerging risks within Commercial Banking.
Change Management - Monitor regulatory developments and changes impacting Commercial Banking. Lead the assessment of impacts and support the business in implementing necessary compliance enhancements.
Training and Awareness - Support the design and delivery of targeted compliance training and job aids to Commercial Banking staff, increasing awareness and understanding of compliance obligations and fostering a strong compliance culture.
Continuous Improvement - Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of compliance processes and reporting within Commercial Banking.
Internal Stakeholders - Build and maintain effective partnerships with Commercial Banking business units, first line of defence representatives, Legal, Operational Risk, Internal Audit, and other second line of defence functions to ensure comprehensive compliance oversight and risk management.
External Relationships - Liaise with relevant regulatory bodies and industry groups to stay informed of evolving regulatory requirements and best practices applicable to Commercial Banking.
Collaboration - Represent Commercial Banking and Wealth Management Compliance on cross-functional working groups and committees, contributing compliance expertise and supporting the implementation of enterprise-wide compliance initiatives.

Knowledge of Canadian banking regulations, compliance policies, and industry standards relevant to Commercial Banking.
Knowledge of U.S., UK and European banking regulations would be an asset.
University degree with 4-5 years of progressively responsible experience in compliance, risk management, or a related field, preferably within commercial banking.
Keen sense of curiosity to learn and understand best practices and industry trends.
Demonstrated ability to provide practical, risk-based compliance advice to business partners, translating regulatory requirements into actionable business processes.
Strong analytical skills to assess compliance risks, interpret regulatory requirements, and develop effective solutions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear compliance guidance and foster collaborative relationships across business and risk functions.
Proven ability to lead and manage cross-functional projects, prioritize competing deliverables, and drive continuous improvement.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and familiarity with compliance management systems (e.g., eGRC).
