Affirm is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to set technical strategy for a distributed systems team building scalable backend services in Python or Kotlin. You will partner with product, design, and analytics to ensure sustainable, low-risk deliveries and own on-call operations.

You will mentor engineers, define code review standards, and drive architecture decisions across cross-functional teams. Remote-first Canada-friendly role with competitive CAD compensation and equity opportunities.

Qualifikationen

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• An extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Experience developing consumer experiences using UI frameworks like React.
• 2+ years of experience working in search or related recommendation engines.
• Experience delivering major features, system components or deprecating existing functionality with a technical and execution plan.
• Thrives in ambiguity and can scale from low level language idioms to large system architectures.
• Growth and impact trajectory showing ability to gather and iterate on feedback from engineers and cross-functional peers.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon and align it with business-impacting projects.
