Job summary

Affirm is hiring for a backend leadership role within the Batch Infra team, focused on scalable compute platforms for ML, product and financial engineering workloads in a remote Canada-wide capacity.

The role requires 4+ years in backend design and deployment with Python or Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. You will own quarterly goals, drive architecture, and foster quality, ownership, and talent development across a distributed team.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes for highly available services.
• Experience with workflow orchestration frameworks (Airflow, Flyte, Prefect, Temporal, Luigi).
• Experience scaling frameworks like Spark/Flink on Kubernetes for big data.
• Ability to define technical plans and write high-quality, maintainable code.

Responsibilities

• Own quarterly goals and lead engineers through ambiguity to delivery.
• Collaborate with product, design and analytics in the lifecycle and decisions.
• Identify and solve project, process, or technology issues and drive solutions.
• Monitor metrics and support reliability, on-call duties and 'keep the lights on'.
• Set and promote code review and design standards across the team.
• Mentor and develop talent through feedback and example.
