affirm is seeking a software engineer to help build and operate backend systems in a remote-first Canada role. You will break down work into phases, collaborate with product, design and analytics, and ensure reliable, well-tested code across a distributed stack.

Qualified candidates have 1.5+ years in software engineering, strong Python or Kotlin skills, and familiarity with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes. Remote-first with national scope and competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• 1.5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems with Python or Kotlin.
• Familiar with distributed systems and AWS, MySQL, Kubernetes.
• Ability to write clear, well-tested, extensible code and review others' work.
• Strong communication and collaboration with global teams.

Responsibilities

• Break down larger projects into tasks, deliver in phases and coordinate with others for timely delivery.
• Collaborate with product management, design and analytics to align on constraints and decisions.
• Support operations and availability, with metrics, escalation and on-call assistance.
• Contribute to team growth through interview participation and knowledge sharing.
