Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer to design and build a next-generation reliability platform for its production systems. You’ll blend distributed systems engineering with AI-assisted development to help teams understand, debug, and improve service health.

This remote-first role is open to candidates in Canada. You will own quarterly goals, collaborate across product, design, and analytics, and drive high-quality, scalable backend systems using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience shipping web apps with React or Vue.
• Experience with LLMs or AI frameworks.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivering a feature with elegant design.
• Proven ability to make major changes safely in a large code base.
• Strong communication and collaboration with global teams.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly team goals, guiding engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product, design & analytics on ideation, constraints and trade-offs.
• Identify and solve project, process, technology or business issues.
• Support operations and availability by monitoring metrics and on-call work.
• Foster code review and design standards and mentor teammates.
• Develop talent by giving feedback and leading by example.
