Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer to design and build a next-generation reliability platform for affirm’s production systems. You’ll blend traditional distributed systems engineering with AI-assisted development to give teams a single place to understand, debug, and improve the health of their services.

This remote role is open to candidates across Canada. You will own quarterly goals, collaborate with product, design, and analytics, and help scale backend systems using Python, Kotlin, AWS,

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Experience shipping web apps with React or Vue.
• Practical use of LLMs or AI frameworks to enhance automation and guidance with guardrails and citations.
• Ability to define a technical plan for the delivery of a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple and extensible design.
• Proficient at making significant changes in a large code base with safe tooling and practices.
• Strong ownership, growth mindset, and collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team, guiding engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems.
• Collaborate with product management, design and analytics to articulate constraints and trade-offs.
• Proactively identify issues and lead in solving them.
• Support operations and availability by creating and monitoring metrics and supporting on-call efforts.
• Set or improve code review and design standards and advocate them beyond the team.
• Mentor teammates and provide feedback to foster growth.
