Affirm is hiring a Senior Software Engineer (Backend, Reliability Platform) to design and build a next-generation reliability platform for production systems. You will blend distributed systems engineering with AI-assisted development to help teams understand, debug, and improve service health.

This remote-first role requires 4+ years of backend experience with Python/Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes, plus experience with AI tooling and web-app architectures using React or Vue.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience shipping web apps with React or Vue.
• Practical experience using LLMs or AI frameworks to enhance automation with guardrails and citations.
• Ability to define technical plans for significant features with simple, extensible designs and high-quality code.
• Strong communication and ownership of professional growth.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team and lead engineers through ambiguous problems.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics during ideation and decision-making.
• Identify and drive resolution of project, process, technology, or business issues.
• Support operations and availability by creating and monitoring metrics and participating in on-call efforts.
• Foster quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards.
• Mentor and develop talent through feedback and leadership by example.
