Job summary

Commissionaires BC is looking for Security Officers to join our team working with the Ledge on Lakeshore Development!

As a Security Guard with Commissionaires BC at Ledge on Lakeshore, you will be responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the buildings, vehicles, and property as a whole. This role involves foot patrolling, reporting, monitoring for theft/vandalism, removing trespassers, gathering evidence and information for detailed reports, and responding to incidents and alarms to ensure a safe environment for the community on site. We are seeking individuals who are proactive, responsible, can work alone, and will actively engage with members of the public and any people after hours on site.

Please Note This site is all exterior. There is sheltering accommodation provided.

Shift Schedules:
  • Sunday - Thursday (2100-0500 hours)
  • Fridays and Saturdays (2100-0500 hours)

Pay Rate: $21.00

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patrolling: Conduct foot patrols of assigned areas including buildings, parking lots/parkade, and public spaces to find and deter persons breaking the law, automotive and property theft, security threats or breaches, camping, and the general securing of property.
  • Engagement with Public: Interact with various members of the community, offering support to those living there and promoting voluntary compliance with trespassers as required using compassion, empathy, and respect. Assess each situation and any concerns related to vagrants or unauthorized individuals on properties by enforcing policies and bylaws calmly and professionally. Ensure that all interactions are handled in accordance with relevant laws and guidelines.
  • De‑Escalation and Incident Management: Utilize effective de‑escalation techniques to manage and resolve conflicts or aggressive behavior. Approach individuals calmly, actively listen, and employ strategies to reduce tension and prevent escalation. Ensure incidents are documented accurately and reported to the appropriate authorities.
  • Reporting: Document and report incidents, irregularities, and daily activities accurately in a company‑assigned Notebook. Prepare incident reports for any interactions and removals.
  • Compliance: Adhere to Commissionaires BC’s policies, procedures, and local regulations. Ensure that security and safety practices are followed at all times.
Work Conditions:
  • Environment: Duties will involve working in various and sometimes extreme weather conditions and environments daily.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods.
Mandatory Certifications:
  • A valid security license (BST)
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license
Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma required, and post‑secondary education preferred or additional training or certification in security, law enforcement, or related fields.
  • Experience: 1 year of previous experience in a related field.
