KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Hazard Identification & Risk Control
  • Lead task-based risk assessments (JSA/JHA/FLRA) for access, elevated work, confined spaces, and material handling.
  • Pre-plan controls for simultaneous operations, congested workfaces, and critical lifts.
  • Verify barricading, decking, tie-offs, anchor points, load capacities, and access/egress controls before release to work.
  • Field Assurance & Safety Audits
  • Conduct routine site inspections using checklists and leading indicator scoring; log findings and drive close-out actions.
  • Validate scaffold inspections, tags, and hand-over/hand-back records in line with company and client standards.
  • Monitor energy isolation (LOTO), hot work, confined space, working-at-heights, and respirator programs for adherence.
  • Coaching, Training & Engagement
  • Deliver orientations, toolbox talks, and targeted refreshers (fall protection, scaffold user/inspector, housekeeping, ergonomics).
  • Mentor supervisors and lead hands on hazard recognition, near‑miss reporting, and permit discipline.
  • Support safety campaigns, observation programs, and recognition for positive behaviors.
  • Incident Prevention, Reporting & Investigation
  • Lead or support investigations for near misses and incidents using structured methods.
  • Issue interim controls, track corrective/preventive actions to closure, and share learnings across projects.
  • Maintain complete, timely documentation and regulatory notifications as required.
  • 5) PPE & Equipment Compliance
  • Enforce selection, fit, inspection, and care of PPE including fall arrest systems, respirators, and impact protection.
  • Verify inspection regimes for ladders, SRLs, lifelines, anchors, hoists, and access equipment meet manufacturer and standard requirements.
  • 6) Standards, Procedures & Client Requirements
  • Apply applicable legislation and standards (e.g., OSHA/CSA, Z259 fall protection, Z797 scaffolding, IHSA guidance).
  • Align site practices with client‑specific requirements (including OPG procedures where applicable) and AlumaSafway policies.
  • Prepare audit packages and support internal/external audits and readiness reviews.
  • Planning & Coordination
  • Participate in daily/weekly planning to sequence work safely on the critical path and minimize interface risks.
  • Verify subcontractor compliance and coordinate with Project Management, Field Ops, QA/QC, and Access Engineering.
  • Maintain accurate records: orientations, permits, inspections, training matrices, and KPI dashboards.
Requirements
Education & Training
  • High school diploma or GED required. Post‑secondary education in OHS, Construction, or a related field is an asset.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years in HSE roles within industrial or construction settings with significant elevated‑work and access scopes.
  • Demonstrated field presence and credibility with craft, foremen, and client representatives.
Certifications & Training (strong assets)
  • Working at Heights / Fall Protection (trainer or advanced level preferred).
  • Confined Space Entry/Rescue, LOTO, Respiratory Protection.
  • Scaffold User/Inspector or equivalent competency.
  • Recognized safety credentials: NCSO, CRSP, CHSC, CSP, CHSO, OSHA 30 or provincial equivalents.
  • Incident investigation training (TapRooT/ICAM/Root Cause) and fit‑testing competency are assets.
  • Current First Aid/CPR.
Skills & Competencies
  • Expert knowledge of elevated‑work controls, scaffold risk, and simultaneous operations.
  • Strong coaching, influencing, and documentation discipline; high attention to detail.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Excel/Word/Outlook/Teams) and digital inspection/reporting tools.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities in fast‑paced, outage‑intensive environments.
  • Exercised stop-work authority and sound risk‑based decision making.
Other Requirements
  • Must be eligible to work in controlled or high‑security industrial environments.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance / site access authorization (e.g., Controlled Goods, site‑specific background checks, drug and alcohol screening).
  • Familiarity with radiological work controls and contamination prevention practices.
  • Working knowledge of ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles.
  • Understanding of dose tracking, contamination control zones, and radiation work permits (RWPs).
  • Ability to interpret radiological postings and apply required PPE and boundaries.
  • Strong procedural discipline and attention to regulatory documentation requirements.
  • Ability to work in highly regulated environments requiring strong procedural compliance, documentation accuracy, and teamwork.
  • Willingness to work shifts, nights, and weekends during peak execution; travel to project sites as needed.
