Job summary

A community-focused organization in Toronto is seeking an experienced Early Childhood Educator. The role involves planning and implementing developmental programs for children aged 0-4, working closely with families, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment. The ideal candidate will have a diploma in Early Childhood Education and relevant experience, and demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion. Job description

Employment Type: Full-Time, Non-union contract
Work Hours: 35 hours per week (flexible hours within 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday; occasional evening work required)
Salary: $27.67 per hour (L4)
Location: 66 Bergamot Avenue, Toronto, ON, M9W 1V9
Contract Period: January 5, 2026 to August 17, 2026

About Bergamot Early Learning Centre

YWCA Bergamot is a 68-unit apartment building with an Early Learning Centre in North Etobicoke for single women, gender‑diverse people, women‑led and gender‑diverse people‑led families in need of permanent, affordable, supportive housing. The Bergamot ELC is a centre of excellence for early childhood development and is licensed for 62 children ages 0 to 4. It demonstrates YWCA Toronto’s commitment to creating quality, affordable housing where women, gender‑diverse people and their children realize their dreams and move forward in their lives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement a program that includes activities and experiences for children 0-4 years of age, under the supervision of the Manager, with primary focus on children currently under their supervision.
  • Demonstrate and incorporate knowledge of emergent curriculum through HDLH and ELECT documents while observing, evaluating, and reflecting on the learning environment.
  • Practice a variety of strategies to promote and support children’s well‑being and safety in the learning environment, including nutrition, physical, mental and socio‑emotional well‑being.
  • Engage in daily, open communication with children and families to foster positive relationships and collaborative partnerships, ensuring a holistic approach to care and education while cultivating a strong sense of community.
  • Work in partnership with families and Resource Consultants to plan, document, and implement goals and strategies to support development of individual support plans and attend meetings as required.
  • Plan and implement parenting programs, workshops or information sessions that reflect the current children and families in our program.
  • Be responsible for the constant supervision, health and safety and well‑being of volunteers and students.
  • Record and update all communication plans and daily health checks in the individual program daily written log and advise the Manager of any incidents and issues of concern in the program.
  • Maintain awareness of all medical action plans and effectively recognize signs and symptoms while following all administrative procedures.
Qualifications
  • Early Childhood Education Diploma or recognized equivalent plus 3-5 years’ experience with children ages 0 to 4 (cases for equivalency will be considered and must have a Registered Early Childhood Educator Certificate).
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Valid and up‑to‑date Health Assessment.
  • Valid standard First Aid Certificate and Level C with Infant/Child CPR.
  • Knowledge of current early childhood development theory and practice.
  • Ability to work with all age groupings from 0 to 4.
  • Knowledge and ability to work from a Diversity, Equity and Inclusive lens.
  • Second language an asset.
  • Willing to work flexible hours within 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday.
  • Occasional evening work required.
