Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support Supply Chain management in planning and executing all purchasing processes.
  • Monitor all purchasing activities.
  • Design and iterate cost-effective purchasing processes that ensure the flow of inventory, guarantee optimum stock levels, and meet turnover goals.
  • Negotiate purchase requisitions and orders; adapt negotiation strategies to new circumstances or issues that arise.
  • Liaise between suppliers, manufacturers, customers, and internal departments.
  • Stay current on both internal and external factors impacting procurement.
  • Execute the organization’s purchasing policies, procedures, standards, and strategies.
  • Propose alternative arrangements in the event of shortages or delayed deliveries to minimize impact on the Company.
  • Recommend cost-savings alternatives for management review and considerations.
  • Execute and process claims against suppliers, ensuring accurate processing of all debits, damages, chargebacks, and transfers based on Company policies and procedures.
  • Source potential suppliers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationship with current suppliers.
  • Analyze and evaluate vendors and suppliers’ performance to improve purchasing process.
  • Assist other departments with sourcing items for special projects.
  • Organize, secure, and maintain files and documentation.
  • Prepare routine reports.
  • Act as Purchasing lead in the absence of direct leader to provide support and direction to the Purchasing team.
  • Identify varied sources of materials and evaluate standards for new products to assist team requirements and achieve material needs of the organization.
  • Keep continuous contact with vendors by maintaining comprehensive descriptions of products and current prices.
  • Generate, review, and track purchase order status for all materials.
  • Oversees material flow to support planning production schedules based on inventory levels.
  • Support the maintenance of ERP, worksheets, lists, and databases.
  • Follow all applicable standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain safety, quality and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in and provide suggestions for the development and continuous improvement of all departmental processes.
  • Attend local and international relevant trade shows, seminars, and webinars, as needed.
  • Year end inventory counts (October – November) fiscal counts are required.
  • Participate in and further the Company’s health & safety program.
  • Report equipment malfunctions immediately.
  • Report quality deficiencies immediately.
  • Offer suggestions for process improvement.
  • Other related duties.
Qualifications
  • Fluent in verbal and written English.
  • 3 years of experience as a Purchaser.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Experience in food / pharmaceutical / nutraceutical industry.
  • Post-secondary degree in purchasing management/administration or related field.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Basic proficiency in mathematics (adding, subtracting, multiplying & dividing).
  • Basic proficiency in using computers.
  • Basic proficiency in using the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong in analytics.
  • Strong decision-making.
  • Strong negotiation.
  • Strong organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Strong in working with people and relationship building.
  • Lift a minimum of 10 kg.
