Overview

The Hibernia and Hebron Research & Development initiative encompasses a new portfolio of projects in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Additive Manufacturing, Sustainability, and Subsurface Prediction and is administered by Research Initiatives & Services (RIS). One project, the Atlantic Canada BioChar project, aims to develop waste biomass-based adsorbents (biochar) to capture carbon from point sources (engine stacks, vents, etc.) and then use the carbon-loaded biochars to replace non-renewable components in construction materials. The strategy is a cradle-to-cradle approach in greenhouse gas management, where the waste from one industry is used to treat another's waste and then stored in a useful, carbon-fixed product. The Project Manager will help ensure that the project meets projected milestones in a timely manner within the allocated budget, and that internal and external reporting requirements are met. To do so, the successful applicant will work closely with the Co-Investigators and project team, RIS, Technical Services, Facilities Management and other support units, Energy Research & Innovation (ERI), the project Advisory Committee, industry partners, and vendors.

Duties

• Work directly with the Co-Principal Investigators (PIs) and the Senior Project Manager to ensure projects are executed on time and on budget.
• Facilitate the purchase of equipment; ensure labs are prepared to receive equipment and that equipment is fully operational.
• Coordinate and allocate project resources to meet deadlines and commitments to stakeholders.
• Apply and follow university policies and best practices; ensure team engagement throughout the project.
• Coordinate and track the project plan implementation and activity schedule to meet milestones and completion deadlines.
• Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies in consultation with PIs, RIS staff, and the Advisory Committee as appropriate.
• Budget and monitor expenditures against the budget; maintain effective communications with RIS, ERI, and all partners.
• Prepare and coordinate reports and budget updates to various stakeholders.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

• Experience (2-3 years) in project management or coordination, including budgeting and monitoring expenses against budget, preferably in a university or industrial R&D environment.
• Experience in selection, procurement, installation, and maintenance of scientific equipment.
• Master’s degree in a related science or engineering discipline required, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including verbal and written communication, and the ability to prioritize work; laboratory experience is essential.
• Experience setting up or managing a research laboratory; experience in the oil and gas industry and/or collaboration with funding agencies and partner organizations is an asset.

SALARY $64,361 - $87,763 per annum (Management and Professional)
