SUMMARY

Operates an automated, high-output machine and provides labor as a packer and stacker in a general production worker position. The machine operator will pack and assist the stacker as appropriate. The employees may rotate positions during shifts to produce quality-finished products and meet production goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review the production schedule to determine the total run quantity. Notify the supervisor if revisions are needed due to work order specifications, established priorities, and availability of ingredients, machines, and equipment.
  • Understands and references machine set-up guide to properly set and run machines.
  • Start the machine by engaging the controls. Observe machine operations to ensure quality and conformity of filled or packaged products to standards. Set, adjust, and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Sort, grade, weigh, and inspect products verifying and adjusting product weight or measurement to meet specifications.
  • Identify defective items, remove and refer to supervision for direction. Remove finished packaged items from the machine and separate rejected items.
  • Set pace online and work with other employees to meet or exceed production goals.
  • Monitor the production line, watching for problems such as pile-ups, jams or glue that isn't sticking properly.
  • Attach identification labels to finished packaged items, or place labels, such as lot numbers or shipping destinations.
  • Stock and sort products and replenish packaging supplies.
  • Count and record finished and rejected packaged items.
  • Package the product in the form in which it is to be sent out.
  • Operates at least one automated, high-output machine and satisfactorily completes all Operator I tasks.
  • Displays a positive and uplifting attitude towards peers.
  • All Employees must actively participate in stretching exercises at the beginning of their shift; participate in product inventory as required; follow all company safety rules/procedures & OSHA Standards; follow established company rules & guidelines; follow established continuous improvement procedures & SQF standards. All employees must conform to the seasonal hours & demands of our business & perform other duties as assigned (including but not limited to shoveling bulk grain or snow, painting, cleaning, maintenance, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Schedule: 12-hour continental shift with biweekly rotation

Job Specific Ability to operate at least one of the automated, high-output machines as well as the ability to satisfactorily complete all Operator I essential duties.

Education - The position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Language Skills The ability to read, write, and comprehend the English language. Employees must have legible handwriting of words and numbers for quality purposes.

Math Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands Must be met by an employee to successfully perform the job.

  • Required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Frequent need to talk or hear. Occasional need to sit; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must lift and/or move up to 60 pounds 50% to 100% of the shift.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.
  • Mechanical aptitude is necessary to succeed in working with machinery.

Work Environment While working in this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is exposed to outside weather conditions such as heat and cold. The warehouse is predominantly unheated and is not air-conditioned. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
