Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Power Engineering program.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a reasonably clean driver’s abstract.
  • Able to work in extreme temperatures.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the unit to ensure all production rates are achieved.
  • Assist in daily rounds and routines associated with all steam generators.
  • Learn the layout, purpose and operating parameters of designated area.
  • Assist Operators in preparation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Participate in safety programs and maintain safe work environment.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Power Engineering Student working at our Conventional, Thermal, or Oil Sands locations, you will become a part of a team that manages the day-to-day requirements associated with plant operations. In this role, you will gain your required steam time, exposure to an oil industry environment and training that will be highly beneficial towards your Power Engineering program and you will receive mentorship and coaching from an experienced operations team, to help develop your career.

  • Job locations:
    • Oil Sands (Fort McMurray, AB) - Albian & Horizon
    • Thermal (Conklin/Lac La Biche, Bonnyville/Cold Lake, Peace River, AB; Senlac & Unity, SK)
      • Jackfish 1, 2, & 3. Kirby North & South (Conklin/Lac La Biche)
      • Primrose & Wolf Lake (Bonnyville)
      • Peace River Complex (Peace River)
      • Senlac & North Tangle Flags (Saskatchewan)
    • Conventional (Grande Prairie, Medicine Hat, AB; Fort St. John, BC)
      • Multiple Grande Prairie region assets (Grande Prairie, AB)
      • Hays Gas Plant (Medicine Hat)
      • West Stoddard Gas Plant (Fort St. John, BC)
  • Shift schedules:
    • Oil Sands: 7 Days On, 7 Days Off, 7 Nights On, & Days Off (12 Hour Shifts)
    • Thermal: Kirby & Jackfish: 8 Days on, 6 Days Off, 8 Nights On, 6 Days off, (12 Hour Shifts) First & Last Day are ½ Days. All other locations follow the Oil Sands schedule.
    • Conventional: Depends on work location.
  • Term lengths: 4 months or 6 months
  • Term starts: May or July 2026
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes (Pre‑Screening A&D test required)

What You Bring To The Role
  • Currently enrolled in a Power Engineering Program
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office programs

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (including GDL) with a reasonably clean driver’s abstract
  • Demonstrate a mechanical aptitude
