Regional District of Central Okanagan
Planner I or Planner II

Do you have the ability to juggle multiple priorities with tight deadlines, a good sense of tact and discretion, and excellent project management and customer service skills? If so, we want you on our Development Services Team!

As the successful candidate, you will undertake current planning initiatives, process development applications, and respond to land use planning inquiries. The position also assists with other regional, electoral area, and long‑range planning projects.

You will:

  1. Review and assess land use planning applications such as OCP and zoning bylaw amendments, development permits, development variance permits, and agency referrals in accordance with RDCO regulations and policies, and provincial and federal legislation.
  2. Ensure applicants are in compliance with planning legislation.
  3. Provide recommendations in the development of planning policy, community plans, and regulatory bylaws including the rural land use bylaws, zoning bylaws, and development applications procedures bylaws, and other planning bylaws and policies.
  4. Assist with rebuilding and recovery activities of wildfire‑impacted communications and guiding residents through the rebuilding process.
  5. Prepare and present staff reports and development applications to the Regional Board, committees, community groups, and the public.
  6. Conduct research and provide advice to developers, the public, and the Regional Board.
  7. Prepare, present, and act as staff liaison at committee meetings as required.
  8. Assist in the facilitation of public consultation to address development and land use issues.
  9. Assist senior planning personnel as required.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Our ideal candidate has a degree in planning or related field with a minimum of one year of experience (preference is a minimum of three years) in a planning capacity, preferably with a regional district, along with membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners. Knowledge of the Local Government Act and pertinent provincial and federal legislation, technical proficiency in MS Office and ArcGIS, and strong communication, time management, analytical, and problem‑solving skills will make you an excellent candidate for this role.

This is a full‑time CUPE 338 position that works Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Flexibility is required for occasional weekend and evening work. The position pays between $46.36 and $48.97 per hour depending on experience.
