About the Opportunity
- Consistently interpret and apply regulations, employment laws, and other requirements that guide the processing of payroll to ensure compliance with Provincial regulations for both union and non-union payroll accounts.
- Maintain employee records for existing employees and new hires; ensure accurate vacation, sick bank, and banked hours accruals.
- Assist with the current implementation of payroll system.
- Collaborate with other teams, team members, and managers to resolve escalated payroll issues.
- Ensure the processing of new hires, temporary workers, transfers, promotions, wage increases, and terminations is accurate and timely.
- Participate in the payroll year-end processes including: T4s, T4As, year-end filings
- Create payroll audit reports to verify accuracy of data.
- Create ad hoc reports for management or payroll team.
- Prepare and validate bi-weekly disbursement of multi-province payroll, including government remittances, garnishments, monthly pension contributions, and union deductions, for assigned payroll accounts, consistent with Provincial wage and hour laws.
- Interpret and communicate legislative requirements; ensure adherence by advising management of necessary actions; elevate issues to Payroll Manager as required.
- Maintain knowledge of all regulations, employment laws, and other requirements for the execution of payroll for both union and non-union payroll accounts across multiple Provinces.
- Ensure knowledge of all union agreements and legislative requirements and apply to processing of payroll.
- Participate in the review and analysis of current payroll and tax procedures and recommend changes for the development of best practice operations.
- Participate in optimization of Payroll System
- Participate in digitization of Employee records
- Ensure the payroll program is set up and updated to reflect the current employee base, including wages, benefits, sick and vacation time in line with contracts (union and non-union).
- Assist in payroll projects including policy, process, and technological changes to increase accuracy and efficiency and create standardization.
- Ability to analyze payroll data and identify trends, discrepancies, or compliance risks.
- Experience with reporting tools or data visualization (e.g., Power BI,)
- Other duties as assigned.
About You
- Minimum 3 years of experience with payroll systems.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with end-to-end payroll processing.
- Proven experience processing payroll for 500+ employees.
- Strong understanding of union contracts and collective agreements.
- Knowledge and skill using Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills (including macros).
- Familiarity with HRIS systems and benefits platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive payroll data with discretion and in compliance with privacy legislation.
- Ability to evaluate an issue, weigh all options, and formulate a practical solution.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines with competing priorities.
- This role requires a high degree of autonomy and initiative, with minimal supervision.
Pay Range
$28 - $30 / hour
