Overview

The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) is a diverse and transformational health organization dedicated to supporting self-determination and decision-making to improve health outcomes for BC First Nations. The Wilp D’Mootxw – Nec’a Yikh “The Healing House” aims to improve access to primary health care and traditional wellness services in a culturally safe, community-based setting.

Position: Medical Office Assistant

Salary: $59,336 - $74,169 - $81,586 per year (pay range explained below)

Contract: This term position ending March 2027 with the FNHA has the possibility of extension. When the term ends, the position may be offered as a permanent role with the Wilp D’Mootxw – Nec’a Yikh “The Healing House” Primary Care Centre

Hours: 7.5 hours per day (core hours 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Mon–Fri)

Location: Wilp D’Mootxw – Nec’a Yikh “The Healing House” Primary Care Centre, New Hazelton, BC (on-site), on the ancestral territories of the Gitxsan and Wet’suwet’en Nations.

Role Overview

The Healing House Primary Care Centre will operate within a culturally safe, no-barriers-to-care model, integrating family and community supports and drawing on Gitxsan and Wet’suwet’en traditions. As Medical Office Assistant, you will be a key member of a collaborative, multidisciplinary primary care team delivering trauma-informed, culturally safe care. You will provide essential administrative support to daily operations and coordinate staff and resources through the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system in alignment with program workflows.

  • Provide essential administrative support to the daily operations of the Centre.
  • Coordinate staff and resources through the EMR system in alignment with program workflows.
  • Support the delivery of trauma-informed, culturally safe care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to a no-barriers-to-care environment by facilitating efficient front-desk and clinic operations.
Qualifications
Education And Experience
  • Graduation from a Medical Office Assistant Certificate Program from an accredited Community College.
  • 3–5 years of experience in a medical practice with knowledge in EMR, encounter coding, data and administrative processes, human resource management principles and practices, and current scheduling practices, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge And Abilities
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, especially related to mental health and substance use; familiarity with MSP billing practices and fee codes.
  • Proficient in using technology and virtual platforms including EMRs, Microsoft Office Suite, and Zoom.
  • Skilled in de-escalation, supportive communication, and maintaining confidentiality in patient care.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License required.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities or health service organizations is an asset.

Notes: The pay range reflects full-time equivalent hours. Incumbents are typically hired between the minimum and midpoint based on knowledge, skills, and experience. The top 10% of the pay range is for exceptional experience and competency. Internal compensation follows FNHA policy.
