Position Summary

As a Maintenance Worker, Commercial, you will help maintain Amacon’s commercial properties across the Lower Mainland, working both independently and as part of a team. The role involves a variety of maintenance tasks and requires effective communication with tenants and staff.

Position Responsibilities
  • Plumbing - includes the repair, replacement or installation of faucets, diverters, pipes, valves toilets, and bathtubs.
  • Electrical - includes the repair, replacement or installation of power switches, fuses, wall sockets, ceiling lights, climate control systems, and baseboard heaters.
  • Drywall repair - includes filling in small holes caused by nails, patching and sanding walls in preparation of paint between the time a tenant vacates a unit, and a new renter assumes occupancy.
  • Painting -includes minor touch-ups following damage repair and new coats of paint applied to unit walls.
  • Grounds-keeping -includes mowing grass, pulling weeds, trimming, and pruning trees and shrubs, watering lawns and plants, replacing light bulbs along pathways and parking areas, sweeping, or raking leaves, and tidying up bark or other ground covering.
  • Snow removal -includes shoveling, blowing, or plowing snow away from covered walkways and driveways, and laying down rock salt atop icy surfaces to prevent slipping.
  • Customer service -includes professional, prompt, and courteous correspondence with renters when scheduling and providing maintenance services, and with contracted vendors that provide additional facility services.
  • Time management - includes maintaining an organized scheduling and tracking system, using a mobile device and computer, to effectively complete all maintenance requests in a timely manner and in the order by which they were received or by level of urgency.
  • General maintenance; includes pressure washing, window cleaning, picking up debris and miscellaneous objects on properties and at work sites.
  • Equipment operation and maintenance; includes operating manual or small powered hand tools for maintenance, operating ½ ton truck to haul materials and equipment to and from job site, driving between job sites.
  • Additional duties as required.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or the equivalent.
  • Experience: 3-5 years construction and/or maintenance experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
    • Must be able to provide a clean driver’s abstract.
    • May be required to drive between sites when necessary.
  • Must be punctual and reliable.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Must be able to lift and move heavy equipment to and from a vehicle.
Physical Requirements

The Maintenance Worker, Commercial is required to frequently walk, stand, and climb stairs/ladders and in/around commercial sites. Must maintain professional appearance and be able to work in a construction environment in all weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, hail, wind, sleet), dust, dirt, and other particulates. Must also have the ability to operate an automobile, read large quantities of information, operate computer equipment, speak, hear, bend, stoop, reach, lift, move and carry up to 50 lbs. independently. Finger dexterity is necessary.

Work Schedule

This full-time salaried position generally works eight-hour days, Monday through Friday. Specific work hours within the workday are flexible to be mutually agreed upon. This position is required to work overtime and weekends on occasion, and respond to emergency situations including snow removal, ice control and other emergency operations after-hours.
