Job description
Overview

The Lead Cafeteria Worker will oversee the management and food preparation in the school cafeteria within the guidelines of the School Food and Nutrition Policy. The Lead will interact daily with students and pre-primary children of various backgrounds and will ensure equitable access to healthy foods in a non stigmatizing manner. The Lead Cafeteria Worker is responsible for financial reporting, procurement, invoicing, menu planning and distribution, food preparation, marketing, communication, service, ordering and receiving, safety, and staff scheduling. The Lead Cafeteria Worker will be committed to promoting healthy eating, food equity and local, minimally processed foods in the school cafeteria. The Lead Cafeteria Worker will work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and reports to the School Principal or designate.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee management and food preparation in the school cafeteria in line with the School Food and Nutrition Policy.
  • Perform financial reporting, procurement, invoicing, and distribution of menus.
  • Plan menus and coordinate food distribution; prepare meals and maintain quality standards.
  • Support marketing, communication, and customer service in the cafeteria.
  • Manage ordering, receiving, and inventory control; ensure food safety and sanitation.
  • Coordinate staff scheduling and lead cafeteria staff.
  • Promote healthy eating, food equity, and use of local, minimally processed foods.
  • Work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and collaborate with school administration.
  • Report to the School Principal or designate.
Schedule and logistics

Schedule to be determined. This will be for the year, full days cooking and preparing meals at an offsite location. This person will need a reliable vehicle to deliver from the offsite kitchen to the school.

Compensation

Classification: Education Entities Non-Union Compensation Framework Band 3; starting hourly wage of $25.18.
