A healthcare organization in Leduc is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant I to join their team. The successful candidate will collect and process specimens for laboratory analysis, perform ECGs, and ensure high-quality client service. This role requires the completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program and recent phlebotomy experience. Opportunities include casual/relief positions with various working hours, emphasizing teamwork and precision in a busy environment.
This is a multisite position in which most scheduled shifts will be at Leduc and shifts at Devon and Westview will be as needed to support operations. Stony Plain, Devon and Leduc are all towns in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region of Alberta, that is surrounded by Parkland County. Stony Plain is approximately 40 minutes West of Edmonton adjacent to the City of Spruce Grove and sits on Treaty 6 land. Devon is approximately 26 km southwest of Edmonton and Leduc is immediately south of the City of Edmonton. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting, processing and reporting quality specimens for analysis. The Medical Laboratory Assistant I primary responsibilities include collection of blood specimens from adults and children using macro and micro phlebotomy techniques, performing ECGs, complete urinalysis, accessioning patient information into the laboratory EPIC computer system, processing samples, transport of specimens and slides, troubleshooting problem specimens and reception duties.
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications: Phlebotomy experience within the last year. Formal education in urinalysis including practicum.
Preferred Qualifications: Recent (within the last year) experience in performing ECGs. Urinalysis experience. Experience with EPIC is considered an asset.
