Job summary

A leading aquaculture company in Sooke, BC is seeking a Hatchery Assistant to support day-to-day kelp hatchery operations. This full-time role involves laboratory work, nursery operations, and field collection, ideally suited for candidates with a degree in Biology. Responsibilities include maintaining cultures, data collection, and assisting with facility development. Ideal candidates should possess laboratory experience and a passion for marine biology. Qualifications

  • Degree in Biology or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 year of laboratory experience required.
  • Experience with marine organisms, microscopy, and aquaculture systems.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized lab environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily lab activities, preparing solutions and maintaining sterile techniques.
  • Maintain kelp gametophyte cultures and conduct health assessments.
  • Assist with spool seeding and water quality testing in nursery.
  • Collect wild kelp and process tissue for new cultures.
