Position Overview

The Job Captain at NGDW is a key technical role responsible for the development and coordination of architectural plans and construction documentation including design development and construction project phases. This position involves producing detailed drawings, managing consultant coordination, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring the successful execution of multiple projects. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with a strong technical foundation and a passion for design excellence.

Primary Responsibilities:
Integrated Design Management
  • Lead the production of design development and construction plans and documents and ensure alignment with project goals and timelines.
  • Conduct site surveys and gather data needed and review all available project information before beginning of design development phase.
  • Coordinate with consultants, engineers, and contractors to integrate all design disciplines.
  • Research and specify materials and systems with a focus on functionality and sustainability.
  • Maintain and update project schedules using Teams Planner and/or Autodesk Construction Cloud Schedule.
Drawing Production
  • Develop high-quality architectural drawings and 3D models using Revit and AutoCAD, including floor plans, slab edge plans, building and wall sections, and other details.
  • Ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code and other applicable regulations.
  • Produce high quality presentation-ready drawings for architect review and approval at key project milestones.
Coordination & Quality Control
  • Lead coordination meetings with consultants and subcontractors and prepare meeting minutes and action items.
  • Ensure that Architectural and Consultants plans are aligned with builder standards
  • Review and redline architectural & consultants drawings for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to design intent.
  • Conduct quality control checks and provide technical solutions during design and documentation phases.
  • Support construction administration through site visits, submittal reviews, and RFIs.
  • Prepare site visit reports
  • Assist in preparing permit applications and liaising with authorities.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
  • Mentor and guide junior and intermediate architectural technologists and designers, assign and evaluate work as directed.
  • Foster a collaborative and communicative team environment.
  • Lead internal and external project meetings, prepare agendas, and document meeting outcomes.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or equivalent; Licensed Architectural Technologist (OACETT) preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in architectural design and documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and construction methods.
  • Must have proven experience with mid- and high-rise residential projects.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, Blue Beam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to produce accurate 3D models and detailed construction drawings.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.
  • Project Management designation is an asset
