Job description
Project Overview

This is a large-scale, multi‑billion‑dollar transit infrastructure project delivered under a Project Labour Agreement (PLA), with multiple contractor teams handling civil, structural, and systems scopes.

The guideway contract scope includes:

  • Precast segment fabrication at a dedicated yard
  • Elevated guideway construction using large gantry cranes
  • Utility relocations, roadworks, and active transportation infrastructure

The precast yard produces thousands of concrete segments. These are cast, stored, and staged onsite, then transported and installed along the alignment using specialized gantry cranes. The yard includes a batch plant, steel fabrication building, and rail‑mounted cranes, and will remain active through the duration of the project. Early morning operations and off‑hour deliveries are approved to maintain schedule.

This scope is high‑impact and fast‑paced. Guideway work is one of the most visible and technically demanding parts of the project.

Key Duties – Safety Advisor
  • Support safe execution of precast fabrication, segment handling, and elevated guideway installation
  • Conduct daily site inspections, hazard assessments, and safety audits across yard and field operations
  • Assist with critical lift planning and execution, including crane operations and guideway launching
  • Deliver toolbox talks, orientations, and training sessions for trades and subcontractors
  • Monitor compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and internal safety protocols
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns; document findings and corrective actions
  • Collaborate with field supervisors, subcontractors, and project managers to reinforce safe work practices
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation and reporting systems
  • Liaise with client safety reps and regulatory bodies as needed
