Job summary

Home Instead in Nanaimo is seeking a Health Care Assistant to support aging adults at home. Compensation ranges from $23.00 to $24.00 per hour, with shifts mornings, evenings, nights, and weekends.

You will provide compassionate in-home care, help with daily living activities, medication management, meal prep, and light housekeeping. Ideal candidates have an HCA license, a clear background check, OFA Level 1, FoodSafe 1, and strong communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• HCA license or equivalent required.
• Clear criminal background and vulnerable sector check required.
• Reliable transportation to work.
• OFA First Aid Level 1 certificate required.
• FoodSafe Level 1 certificate required.
• Compassionate, reliable, patient demeanor required.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care to clients in home settings.
• Assist with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, personal hygiene).
• Manage medications as directed.
• Prepare meals and ensure nutrition.

Responsibilities

• Providing compassionate care to clients in their home setting.
• Assisting with daily living activities, such as bathing, dressing, and personal hygiene
• Medication management.
• Preparing meals and ensuring proper nutrition.
• Assisting with light housekeeping tasks
• Monitoring and reporting changes in clients' health and well-being
• Companionship and engaging in meaningful activities with client.

Requirements

• Valid and up-to-date Health Care Assistant license or equivalent
• A clear criminal background and vulnerable sector check
• Reliable Transportation to work
• Valid completion of OFA First Aid Level 1 course
• Valid competition of FOODSAFE level 1 or equivalent
• Compassionate, reliable, and patient demeanor
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Assets

• Previous caregiving experience
• Valid certifications or training in caregiving, personal support work, or related fields.
• Valid BC drivers license
