Job summary

Senior Helpers in Vernon, BC is hiring Health Care Assistants to provide in-home support and facility-based care for seniors. If you are a new graduate or experienced, you’ll join a team dedicated to improving quality of life through compassionate care.

You will assist with daily living activities, mobility, medication reminders, and companionship while upholding BC Care Aide standards and safety protocols. Flexible shifts and training are provided to help you grow in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Must be able to speak and write in English; additional languages are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, dressing).
• Help with instrumental tasks like light housekeeping and meals.
• Monitor and report changes in patients' condition to the health care team.
• Assist with mobility and safe patient transfers.
• Support patient eating and hydration within dietary needs.
• Assist with medication reminders and administration under supervision.
• Maintain a clean, safe patient environment.
• Provide emotional support and companionship to patients and families.

Responsibilities

• Assisting clients with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, and dressing
• Assisting clients with instrumental activities of daily living such as light housekeeping, meal preparation
• Monitoring and reporting any changes in the client's condition to the healthcare team
• Providing assistance with mobility and transferring patients safely
• Supporting patients with eating and drinking, adhering to dietary requirements
• Assisting with medication reminders and medication administration under supervision
• Maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients
• Providing emotional support and companionship to patients and their families

Qualifications

• Compassionate and empathetic demeanor
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to speak and write in English. Other languages will be an asset.

Requirements

• Current registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry
• Completion of a recognized Health Care Assistant program
• Previous experience working as a Health Care Assistant in a healthcare setting preferred
• Negative TB test completed in the past 90 days
• A negative Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check issued in the past 90 days
• Certification in CPR and First Aid (preferred)
• Reliable transportation and flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends
