A local school district in Kensington is seeking a Long Term Substitute Teacher for Special Education. This full-time position focuses on teaching Developmental Reading and co-teaching Advanced English. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with general education teachers, evaluate student outcomes, and assist in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP). Must attend additional school meetings outside regular hours. This role is vital in supporting students with disabilities.

Lessons for the Developmental Reading class are being prepared by the classroom teacher on maternity leave. The daily schedule is designed so that this position can collaboratively plan with the English 8 cohort.
The wage range for this position is between and per hour. This position does not include benefits.

Under direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the special education teacher provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities and works in collaboration with the general education teacher. Monitors and evaluates outcomes for students with disabilities. Assists in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.
Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement. Teachers employed in special education schools or discrete special education service models are required to successfully complete specific courses provided by MCPS. The courses are designed to meet the needs of students with disabilities, particularly courses in behavioral management which include nonviolent crisis interventions. Teachers in these identified schools and programs will be required to support behavioral interventions.
