Forsite Consultants Ltd. in Salmon Arm, BC, is seeking a Forest Technician with practical forestry knowledge for a full-time, temporary role that can lead to permanent placement.

You will conduct reconnaissance road/cut block work, ecological and riparian assessments, and prepare associated plans and appraisal packages in a safe, timely manner. We offer competitive wages, a solid benefits package, supported professional development and a company matched pension program.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in a relevant discipline or 2+ years field experience.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather.
• Willing to travel out of town for 5- or 10-day shifts.

Compensation: $23/hr - $28/hr

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Forest Technician is responsible for forest development activities including reconnaissance road/cut block engineering, ecological and riparian assessments, and completing the associated plans, deliverables, and appraisal packages in a safe, timely, cost effective and professional manner. This is a field-based position that has the potential for out of town and camp work.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

• A safety conscious attitude;
• Enthusiastic and passionate about forestry;
• Physically fit and capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions;
• Able to work both independently under limited direct supervision as well as in a dynamic team environment;
• Valid driver's license and safe driving record;
• Post-secondary education with a diploma or degree in a relevant discipline, or 2+ years of related field experience is preferred; however, we are willing to train the right candidate;
• Able to work out of town for 5- or 10-day shifts;
• Broad understanding of general forestry practices is preferred;
• Good problem solving and decision-making skills; can think critically and proactively to find solutions, and exercise sound judgment in dynamic situations;
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal (and technical writing would be great);
• Professional, friendly, and respectful.
