Job summary

A leading Canadian university located in Toronto is seeking a Financial Assistant to support financial administration. Your opportunity

The Biological Sciences Facility (BSF) is a multifaceted animal facility, housing animals from several departments within the Faculty of Arts & Science in support of academic and research missions.

The facility provides optimum housing for a wide range of species including invertebrates, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals. The facility also oversees and coordinates animal housing and surgery.

As the Financial Assistant, you will report to the Vivarium Director, responsible for supporting a number of financial administrations, including onboarding in HRIS, payroll and attendance reporting.

Your responsibilities will include
  • Monitoring department budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations
  • Generating standard financial reports
  • Preparing and/or processing journal entries
  • Acting as the first point of contact for payroll related enquiries
  • Preparing payroll records for processing
  • Entering salary and/or personnel information in HRIS
  • Verifying that provisions of applicable collective agreements and/or policies are applied appropriately
Essential Qualifications
  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years' related financial experience preferably in a University setting, or equivalent environment.
  • Experience processing payroll transactions and reconciling payroll.
  • Experience generating financial reports and compiling, sorting and organizing financial data.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite, including advanced use of Excel and with SAP systems, Financial Information System (FIS), or similar systems.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Superior time management skills with ability to prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Ability to accurately interpret and apply guidelines, procedures and regulations in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to effectively communicate financial procedures.
  • Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness, and self-motivation.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: USW Pay Band 09 -- $67,916. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $86,855. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.

40 FTE Prorated: USW Pay Band 9 -- $27,166.40. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $34,742.00. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
