Job summary

A progressive municipal government in Delta, BC is seeking an Engineering Project Technologist/EIT to support municipal infrastructure planning and design. Candidates should possess three years of experience, strong computer abilities, and familiarity with hydraulic modelling software and design practices. Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Engineering Project Technologist/EIT to join the Engineering department in the Utilities division. The Engineering Project Technologist/EIT reviews and assists in the long-term planning of municipal infrastructure upgrades. Responsibilities
  • Preparing Council Reports and Memos as required to support the Engineering Department
  • Developing and maintaining the City’s hydraulic and hydrological models
  • Coordinating external agencies to obtain regulatory permits and approvals
  • Managing capital projects such as pump stations, utility main upgrades etc.
  • Managing utility related programs such as water metering, backflows, leak detection, water quality etc.
  • Preparing design layouts, detail drawings, specifications, construction cost estimates, and contract documents for construction projects
  • Planning, leading and participating in meetings with internal and external stakeholders
  • Site visits as needed to inspect construction projects
  • Supporting long term utility master planning and identifying required upgrades
  • Maintaining effective communication and positive relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts
  • Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications

Desirable Training and Experience: The ideal candidate would have a minimum of three years’ experience in municipal infrastructure planning and design and a knowledge of common engineering design and construction practices. Strong computer abilities, attention to detail and accuracy, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required. Experience with hydraulic modelling software, ArcGIS, and AutoCAD would be an asset.

Project priorities are established by a superior and within those parameters an incumbent exercises considerable independence of judgement and action in the technical aspects of the work discussing difficult technical problems, policy and budgetary matters with a superior. Work performance is reviewed by a superior in terms of technical adequacy, conformance to established standards and practices and achievement of desired objectives.

Graduation from an Institute of Technology Diploma program in appropriate discipline or registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC plus related experience in municipal engineering.

Licences, Certificates and Registrations
  • Applied Science Technologist (AScT) with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC (or equivalent).
  • A valid Class 5 BC driver’s license is required.
