Wireless Network Engineer Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the implementation, testing, and operation of Cogeco's core network; ensuring liaison with internal and external teams.

  • Lead technical activities and coordinate with internal partners, external partners, and vendors to support Cogeco’s product roadmap.

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to quickly resolve service outages and complex customer issues, coordinating with partners as required.

  • Responsible for developing high-quality network monitoring through real-time data collection and analysis; including defining Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), creating dashboards, and generating reports to effectively track network performance and ensure reliable fault detection.

  • Participate in research for new mobile network solutions, as necessary.

  • Define, implement, and enforce change management policies, as well as the creation and revision of MOPs (Method of Procedure).

  • Define best practices for disaster recovery. Participate in periodic network audits and planned failover tests to identify gaps in systems and processes necessary to maintain network health.

  • Ensure solutions adhere to defined standards (3GPP, GSMA, etc.) and best practices, and/or assist in the development of these standards and practices.

  • Collaborate with the Product team and other partners to define a product roadmap for Cogeco's mobile service.

  • Ensure Cogeco leverages the latest roaming technologies from both a network and IT perspective.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure with strict deadlines, both as an individual contributor and a team player.

  • Participate in knowledge transfer, documentation, and information sharing while staying up to date on new technologies and technical fields.

Work Experience
  • 5+ years of experience with a 3G/LTE/5G mobile operator.

  • Experience with a new or recent mobile operator is an asset.

  • Experience with EPC/4G and 5G Core nodes and signaling flows.

  • Experience in data analysis using BigQuery / Looker and BQML is an asset.

Qualifications
  • University degree in Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, or similar, or equivalent experience.

  • Excellent knowledge of 5G / IMS / LTE wireless technology.

  • Detailed knowledge of SS7, Sigtran, and 4G/5G protocols.

  • Understanding of SIM card profiles, mobile devices, and "Carrier Bundles."

  • Understanding of enterprise data warehouses and the ability to write and execute queries in GCP BigQuery / Looker.

  • Ability to troubleshoot, investigate, and resolve network issues.

  • General working knowledge of Cloud Native environments, with technologies such as AWS/GCP/Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, OpenStack, VMWare, KVM, or EKS.

  • General understanding of TCP/IP networking and familiarity with TCP, UDP, SCTP, GTP, RADIUS, Mobile IP, SIP, and Diameter protocols.

  • Proficiency in English and French, both spoken and written. The candidate must be bilingual to communicate verbally and in writing with US and international vendors.

  • Autonomous and well-organized.

  • Strong team spirit and interpersonal skills.

  • Good knowledge of the Canadian wireless market.
