SALARY RANGE: $91,800 to $120,960

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

About the Director, Operations Role

We are looking for an experienced and engaging Director, Operations to oversee geographically diverse programs and worksites including but not limited to outreach and housing. The successful candidate will work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. The role requires a balance between ensuring optimal service user care and accreditation standards, as well as leadership and strategic responsibilities as an integral part of our Senior Leadership Team.

NON-CONTRACT ROLE DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Director, Operations

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

SUPERVISES: Program Manager(s)

ROLE SUMMARY

The Operational Director is responsible for overseeing the operations and administration of the designated program area, providing the leadership, expertise and planning necessary for high quality service delivery. As a senior leadership position within the Society the Director works closely with the Senior Leadership team to plan and develop resources to achieve organizational operating objectives, works within the organization to develop human resources and program standards, and provides input to the operational and personnel policies of the Society.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Administers and directs the operation of programs within the assigned portfolio area in accordance with all legislation and requirements to ensure a high standard of care and/ or service. Participates in strategic and operational planning and leads resulting projects and initiatives.
  • Guides the efficient use of resources to achieve appropriate service delivery standards within fiscal restraints, by developing and monitoring operational budgets, approving expenditures, and reviewing and monitoring staffing costs.
  • Leads continuous quality improvement activities by developing quality performance measurements, evaluating the performance of the programs and services in the portfolio, and maintaining and analyzing statistics to support planning and decision making. Facilitates member and stakeholder input and feedback including annual member satisfaction surveys, and researches internal and external data and other information to ensure programs provide optimal services that meet the needs of members.
  • Assesses and monitors staffing requirements and manages staff within the operational area including hiring, assigning work, providing feedback and formal performance evaluation, clarifying roles and outlining expectations, and identifying and providing appropriate education, training and orientation. Reviews and investigates employee conduct and performance issues in collaboration with Human Resources, and determines appropriate disciplinary outcome or performance improvement plan and monitoring.
  • Works with the community to educate and promote the mission of the organization, including participating in committees, delivering presentations, and representing the Society at community events as required to enhance the organization’s image and reputation. Acts as a liaison and a representative of the agency with other community agencies and funders.
  • Promotes a collaborative and creative environment with a focus on innovation in the healthcare sector.
QUALIFICATIONS

A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a BA or MA in Behavioural Science plus five years’ experience managing staff and programs in a unionized environment in a mental health or social services setting.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong professional relationships with people from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to take initiative and to be a results oriented and innovative strategic thinker.
  • Exceptional organizational skills including the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of HR practices in a unionized environment, and the ability to lead and manage staff.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to achieve results independently and to collaborate and contribute within a team environment.
  • Ability to exemplify the values and philosophy of the Society in their approach to all aspects of service delivery.
  • Flexible, client focused.
  • Experience with accreditation, proposal writing, and project management is considered an asset.
