Overview

Join to apply for the Diet Technician role at University Health Network.

Location: Toronto General Hospital. Hours: 15 hours per week. Status: Temporary Part-Time (until July 2026). Site: Toronto General Hospital. Department: Health Services. Reports to: Allied Health Manager. Closing Date: September 10, 2025.

Duties

Working under the direction of the Operational Manager and in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary team, this Diet Technician position supports the inpatient transplant units at Toronto General Hospital. Duties include assisting the Clinical Dietitians in providing patient-centered nutrition care, and performing a variety of activities to ensure the efficient and effective provision of nutrition care, including educational and QA responsibilities, and ongoing communication with the supervising dietitian and other key players to ensure information is completed in a timely fashion.

Qualifications
  • Completion of a Community College Diploma program in Food and Nutrition, or recognized equivalent
  • Completion of a degree in Food and Nutrition from a recognized university is preferred
  • One year related experience is preferred
  • Experience working in a teaching hospital environment is preferred
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary setting
  • Completion of the written examination to obtain membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (C.S.N.M) is required within the first year of employment
  • Therapeutic nutrition knowledge
  • Extensive knowledge of food preparation and food allergies
  • Knowledge of CBORD / Diet Office management and PDA system
  • Computer literacy
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and patient service skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations
