CRIME ANALYST
Term: Permanent Full-time
Salary/Pay: $78,327.00 – $112,863.00/Annually
The Crime Analyst position is established to assist the organization in successfully meeting its mission of providing culturally sensitive and data-driven policing to the UCCM APS service area. The Crime Analyst will collect, analyze, and interpret crime and community safety data to identify trends, patterns, and emerging issues within the service area. The position will prepare reports and visual data products to assist leadership with proactive strategies, enforcement initiatives, and community engagement efforts. The Crime Analyst will interact with UCCM APS personnel, external stakeholders, and community partners to prepare assessments on crime trends, community-level issues, and service-wide statistics, serving as a key analytical resource within the Crime Unit.
Your duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Collect, summarize, and interpret data to produce analytical and operational reports supporting investigations, resource deployment, and proactive policing.
- Compile and analyze community-and service-level crime statistics to identify trends and areas of concern.
- Develop, maintain, and update databases for crime analysis and reporting.
- Create analytical products such as crime bulletins, heat maps, link charts, and statistical dashboards.
- Prepare regular and ad hoc reports on crime trends, calls for service, and community safety indicators.
- Support community safety planning by identifying patterns and emerging issues across UCCM APS communities.
- Collaborate with internal units, management, and community partners to inform data-driven strategies and decision-making.
- Prepare data and reports for annual summaries, grant applications, and presentations to leadership and community partners.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with policies, standards, and data integrity requirements.
Your education and experience:
- Post-secondary degree in Criminology, Data Analytics, Social Science, or related field; or combination of training and experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years previous experience in a directly related role, including crime analysis, data analytics, or research.
- Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, charts, and dashboards), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), NICHE RMS, CPIC, and MTO databases.
- Experience developing statistical summaries, dashboards, and performance reports for internal and community use.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and assist the UCCM APS in major investigations when required.
Your skills include (but are not limited to):
- Strong knowledge of research methods, data collection, and analytics.
- Advanced Excel proficiency for statistical reporting, data visualization, and performance tracking.
- Analytical skills including spatial, temporal, and geographic analysis of crime patterns.
- Excellent organization, time management, and logical reasoning skills.
- Demonstrated decision-making ability, sound judgment, and problem-solving.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization and with external partners.
- Ability to prepare and present professional written reports, charts, and visual summaries of findings.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Knowledge and respect for Anishnaabe traditions, language, customs, and culture.
