Job summary

BC Hydro is seeking a Co-op – CADD Drafter (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, P&C, Telecom and Municipal) for January 2027. The position is located at Edmonds 06 and offers a full-time Co-op schedule.

The chosen candidate will assess drawings for standards, verify dimensions and may update GIS data. Relocation and field work may be required, with a mix of office and potential on-site work depending on role type.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a technical engineering program and have not yet graduated in Canada.
• Completed minimum 1st year of technical engineering studies at an accredited post-secondary institution.
• Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Strong communication, highly motivated, and results oriented.
• May require a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License for some positions.

BC Hydro is located at Edmonds 06. The company is currently looking for applications for the role of Co-op – CADD Drafter (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, P&C, Telecom and Municipal) – January 2027. We are seeking a self-disciplined individual with exceptional interpersonal skills. The chosen applicant will be required to join and begin their duties as soon as possible. This is a full-time Co-Op position.

• The candidate will be responsible for assessing drawings against standards and identifying designs that appear to involve conflicting data.
• The candidate will be responsible for verifying drawings against the provided dimensions, elevations and slopes, scales, quantities of materials, etc.
• The candidate may update Geographic Information System (GIS) information.
• The candidate will be responsible for assigning and recording drawing numbering and maintaining drawing lifecycles.

Job Requirements

• The candidate must be enrolled in a technical engineering program and have yet to graduate from a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada.
• The candidate must have completed a minimum of 1st year of technical engineering studies at an accredited post-secondary institution.
• The candidate must have a strong working knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
• The candidate must have strong communication skills, be highly motivated, and be results oriented.
• Candidates may be required to have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License for some positions.

Security and safety

• The candidate will be required to obtain background check clearance as a condition of employment at BC Hydro. This may include reference checks, education verification, employment verification, criminal record check, drivers abstract review, and a drug and alcohol test.

Work conditions

• The candidate will work mainly in the office but may participate in some field visits.
• The candidate will be required to work at the job location for the Co-op role and will be responsible for making relocation arrangements if necessary.
• The candidate will be assigned to one of four role types that determine the degree of flexibility available to work from home based on the type of work performed.
• The candidate will work in a Field role with no option to work from home.
• The candidate will work primarily in the office, typically 4 or more days per week.
• The candidate may be able to work from home for up to 3 days per week in a Hybrid role.
• The candidate will perform their work from home for 4 or more days per week under the Remote work model.
• The candidate will gain practical, hands-on work experience directly related to their specific field of study.
• The candidate will gain experience producing graphs, drawings, maps, and diagrams.
• The candidate will learn how to create and revise a variety of standard engineering/design computer-aided drafting (CAD) drawings.
