Job summary

FortisBC in Surrey, BC is seeking an Engineering Co-op - Records to gain hands-on experience supporting drafting, records control, and quality assurance on highly technical engineering documents.

You will collaborate with Engineers, Drafters, and Records Analysts, maintain the DMS, support Power BI dashboards, CAD revisions, and ensure drawings meet FortisBC standards for an 8-month term starting January 2027.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in Bachelor of Engineering (2nd year or higher) or technologist program in Applied Sciences.
  • Enrolled in a Co-op program.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Able to work with multiple stakeholders and teams.
  • CAD and ArcGIS knowledge is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support automated workflows and Power BI dashboards for reporting.
  • Develop process flow diagrams in Visio.
  • Collaborate with Engineers to revise drawings using CAD.
  • Coordinate drawing reservations with the Work Leader.
  • Maintain FortisBC’s Document Management System (DMS).
  • Ensure drawings meet FortisBC standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify issues on engineering drawings with Records Analysts and provide feedback.
  • Assist in project closeout between Records Analysts and Engineering teams.

Position Overview

As an Engineering Co-op, Records, you will collaborate with a team of Engineers, Drafters and Record Analysts to establish and maintain the quality of FortisBC standards and records. In this role, you will mainly assist our Engineering Drafting and Records team in creating and maintaining quality control documents as well as document control tasks such as drawing check-in/out, drawings upload and reservation for internal and external stakeholders. You will have an opportunity to gain practical experience of drafting, document control, quality check and quality assurance on highly technical Engineering documents.

Responsibilities
  • Support the maintenance and optimization of automated workflows and Power BI dashboards to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Assist in developing process flow diagrams in Visio to enhance clarity and standardization of engineering workflows.
  • Collaborate with Engineers and other team members to maintain and revise engineering drawings using CAD software.
  • Work with Engineering Drafting Work Leader to address internal and external stakeholders’ requests for drawing reservation.
  • Work with Engineering Drafting Work Leader to maintain FortisBC’s DMS.
  • Work with Engineering team to ensure the drawings meet Regulatory and FortisBC’s standards of quality.
  • Work with FortisBC’s Records Analysts to identify issues on Engineering drawings, provide feedback, and help address the issues on engineering records.
  • Provide project closeout support by being a bridge between the Records Analysts and Engineering groups to ensure Engineering closeout deliverables are submitted thoroughly and timely.
Requirements
  • You are enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering program (second year or higher), or technologist level program in Applied Sciences.
  • You are enrolled in a Co-op program.
  • You are skilled in the art of interacting with people at all levels of the company as well as external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Comfortable working broad range of responsibilities with multiple stakeholders with various professional backgrounds.
  • You are a “self-starter” and work effectively on your own or in a team environment.
  • Experience or knowledge with CAD applications and ArcGIS is an asset.
