Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a Co-op Program and not yet graduated in Canada.
• Minimum of 3rd year Civil or Structural engineering studies at an accredited university.
• Interest in reinforced concrete and structural steel design.
• Hold a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License (or equivalent).
• Basic knowledge of electrical power system principles.
• Strong analytical and drawing-reading abilities.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out steel and/or concrete structural design work.
• Perform structural analysis tasks.
• Prepare sketches for drafting and assist in drawings preparation.

• The candidate will be responsible for carrying out steel and/or concrete structural design work.
• The candidate will be responsible for carrying out structural analysis work.
• The candidate will be responsible for preparing sketches for drafting and assisting in the preparation of drawings.
• The candidate will be responsible for reviewing shop drawings and other contractor submittals.
• The candidate will be responsible for gathering information to support project needs.
• The candidate will be responsible for data processing to support ongoing analysis, design or investigation work.
• The candidate will be responsible for carrying out field inspections during construction or field investigations.
• The candidate will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of engineering documentation.

Job Requirements

• The candidate must be enrolled in a Co-op Program and have yet to graduate from a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada.
• The candidate must have completed a minimum of 3rd year of Civil or Structural engineering studies at an accredited university or institute of technology.
• The candidate must have an interest in reinforced concrete and structural steel design.
• The candidate must hold a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License (or equivalent).
• The candidate must have a basic knowledge of the principles of the electrical power system.
• The candidate must have good analytical skills.
• The candidate must have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• The candidate must have good written and verbal communication skills.

Security and safety

• The candidate will be required to obtain background check clearance as a condition of employment at BC Hydro. This may include reference checks, education verification, employment verification, criminal record check, drivers abstract review, and a drug and alcohol test.
• The candidate will be required to successfully complete pre-employment alcohol and drug testing as a condition of employment for this safety-sensitive position.

Work conditions

• The candidate will be required to work at the job location for the Co-op role and will be responsible for making relocation arrangements if necessary.
• The candidate may spend some work days in the field in all weather conditions and will be required to travel overnight occasionally.
• The candidate will be assigned to one of four role types that determine the degree of flexibility available to work from home based on the type of work performed.
• The candidate will work in a Field role with no option to work from home.
• The candidate will work primarily in the office, typically 4 or more days per week.
• The candidate may be able to work from home for up to 3 days per week in a Hybrid role.
• The candidate will perform their work from home for 4 or more days per week under the Remote work model.
