- The candidate will be responsible for assisting with the analysis of earthquake data to support seismic hazard analysis of critical structures.
- The candidate will be responsible for enhancing existing workflows for seismic hazard analysis by automating or semi-automating processes such as signal processing and ground motion time series selection and scaling for seismic hazard input in structural analysis.
- The candidate will be responsible for migrating existing workflows from MATLAB to Python or R to improve efficiency and flexibility.
- The candidate will be responsible for implementing new methods and improving existing processes for ground motion modeling of earthquakes.
Job Requirements
- To qualify for the position, the candidate must be enrolled in a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada and must be yet to graduate.
- The candidate must have completed at least second-year studies in a Civil, Geological, Geotechnical, Geophysics, or Computer Engineering degree program at an accredited university.
- Candidates with strong programming skills in Python and R will be considered an asset.
- The candidate must have a solid background in statistical analysis and data processing.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience or coursework in earthquake data analysis or a strong interest in seismic hazard studies.
- The candidate must be able to design efficient workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and solve technical challenges.
- The candidate must demonstrate self-motivation and a proactive approach to learning and applying new methods.
- The candidate must have excellent communication and teamwork skills to effectively contribute to multidisciplinary projects.

- The candidate will be required to obtain background check clearance as a condition of employment at BC Hydro. This may include reference checks, education verification, employment verification, criminal record check, drivers abstract review, and a drug and alcohol test.
Work conditions
- The candidate will be required to work at the job location for the Co-op role and will be responsible for making relocation arrangements if necessary.
- The candidate will be assigned to one of four role types that determine the degree of flexibility available to work from home based on the type of work performed.
- The candidate will work in a Field role with no option to work from home.
- The candidate will work primarily in the office, typically 4 or more days per week.
- The candidate may be able to work from home for up to 3 days per week in a Hybrid role.
- The candidate will perform their work from home for 4 or more days per week under the Remote work model.
